What is Counselling?

At its core counselling is creating a space where you can be heard and explore whatever thoughts and feelings that have brought you to the session.

Although counselling cannot give you direct advice on situations, exploring your thoughts and feelings in therapy can enable you to look at things differently and find the answers you are looking for within.

The majority of people who attend therapy find it beneficial to their mental health and making positive changes to their lives.

What to Expect

There are a number of diverse styles within counselling and each one can work better for different people.

My style of working is Humanistic, which creates a space where we can explore whatever you want to bring under strict rules of confidentiality.

My sessions are client led which means that you have control to bring whatever you want to the sessions. If you have specific goals you want to achieve with our work, we can work towards them. If you don’t and you are just feeling stuck, we can work on gaining deeper insights into your feelings and explore what could be causing them.

About

About Me

I am a BACP registered humanistic psychotherapist from the University of Chichester.

I have lived in Portsmouth all my life and have primarily worked in the care industry prior to and alongside my counselling career. Helping people through their problems, through counselling has been a passion of mine for over a decade.

Coming from a care background and having had public facing jobs has made me appreciate the importance of making time for yourself to process stress and allow time for yourself to be heard.

Sessions

Counselling Sessions

My practice offers sessions both face to face and remotely via phone or video chat.

Each session will last for up to 50 minutes and cost between £50 - £55 per session

Both services provide unique therapeutic experiences and have different benefits:

Face to Face Sessions

Face to face is the classic approach to counselling and allows us to see one another.

The work we do together can be greatly influenced by what happens in the room.

If you have difficulties opening up, there are creative arts exercises such as object and sand tray therapy which we can do in person to help get things moving in the right direction.

These exercises can be conducted via video sessions, but some are logistically more beneficial in person.

Cost: £55 per session

Remote
Sessions

From 2020 the human race has had to adapt to remote working.

In addition to being extremely COVID safe, phone sessions can potentially be more convenient from the comfort of your own home, in some cases reducing travel costs.

Furthermore, if you want to give therapy a go but you are feeling anxious about coming to a new place for a new experience; remote sessions may feel more comfortable.

In my experience of holding phone sessions, where we can’t see one another, it is heavily focused on being heard.

Please note: To gain the most from remote sessions it is best to be in a space where you have privacy from others

Cost: £50 per session

Our 1st Session

Our first session is known as an assessment. Although the term “Assessment” can sound intimidating, it is simply a session where I ask some questions about what has brought you to counselling and explaining how my counselling practice works.

The introduction session also allows us to find out if we are right to work together and to get a rough idea of how long we will work together for and discuss any goals you may have and how to work towards them.

We will also go through the counselling contract to establish our working relationship.

Cancelation Policy

Cancelation/Non-Attendance Policy – 48 hours notice

Please let me know 48 hours in advance if you are unable to attend your session.

Unless there is sufficient notice (48 hours minimum) with the exception of illness or an emergency occurring, the missed session will be fully chargeable and will count as one of the agreed sessions available.

Location

My face to face sessions are held at the Therapy Rooms, in Bransbury Park. Please note that I will only be able to see people by appointment only. To arrange a session, please contact me via text or e-mail, due to my schedule I may not be able to answer phone calls.

Accessibility

Having spent a lot of time within the care industry, I appreciate the importance of accessibility and how limiting it can be when facilities do not meet requirements.
My practice is held in a wheelchair friendly building with ramps and disabled toilet.
